We’re committed to helping you develop industry-ready skills and enhance your employability through work-integrated learning, which is embedded in all our courses.
Whether you are looking for casual work while studying, a full-time job over the inter-trimester break, or you want to develop networking connections with industries in your chosen field, our team at the Curtin College Careers Centre is here to help.
The Centre offers free weekly drop-in sessions covering careers advice, resume polishing and job interview training sessions, led by qualified human resources professionals from Navitas as well as senior college management staff. The Careers Centre also runs a series of monthly on-campus career-building workshops and off-campus study tours exploring exciting workplaces in a wide range of different industries.
Before you start, it’s important to consider how much time you will be able to commit to work without it interfering with your studies. If you are an international student, you must also adhere to the working hour limits attached to your student visa. This means knowing when your deadlines are and when to cut back on shifts.
Meet experienced professionals to receive strategic advice about building a career in the industry where you want to make your mark. The Career Builder series has included presentations from local professionals and organisations in engineering, health and media, with many more industries planned for 2022. The Career Builder seminars can potentially lead to job opportunities and paid internships whilst studying and talk on topics such as the power of networking have helped many students expand their industry network early.
Demonstrating leadership is one of the most sought-after skills that graduate employers look for in a candidate.
There are many ways you can become involved in your college community while developing your personal and professional leadership skills, including the Curtin College Student Ambassadors, Academic Peers, Perth Buddy scheme and becoming a Student Mentor.
Opportunities to participate in these various leadership opportunities are regularly advertised by the Marketing and Student and Academic Services teams.
There are many jobs available in Perth for students, both while you study and after you graduate. Working while you study is not only a great way to earn some extra money, it also gives international students the chance to be part of the community and experience the Australian way of life. Check out the information on the StudyPerth website on how to find a job in Perth. Curtin College itself also runs ‘Meet your next boss’ at the beginning of each trimester, where students and local employers looking to hire part-time staff can meet each other in a speed-dating type setting.
Current students can contact the Curtin College Student and Academic Services team to find out more about internship roles available in health services and hospital settings, accounting, marketing, business administration, community organisations, project management and human resources.
